Sewing a quilt block every day of October Week 1
During October I am participating in #peachtober22 a prompt challenge created by furry little peach to create something every day of October. I will be sewing a mini quilt each day (and when I say mini I mean mini). So far it has been a great experience and I have already found so many new techniques I am excited to try! Here are the first seven days!

My sewing setup
I have gone through a few setting ups in my current tiny (>600sqft) apartment that I also use for my day job. Right now I have this permanent set up for cutting sewing and ironing all on a pop up Ikea table. It is worth it having everything I need within reach even if it makes my living room look more cluttered.

Day 01: Cave
To create a cave I made a very wonky log cabin-type technique around a center shape. I used a gradient of colors to add depth. I love working with dark colors like these.

Day 02: Dandelion
I am SUPER excited about what I came up for the dandelion prompt. I did a improv piecing to create a curved shape of strip pieced petals. This took basically no measuring (although did have a bit of waste) I am planning on creating a quilt block pattern for this soon because it is a super easy way to make curved looking blocks with no curves!

Day 03: Cowboy
I have been looking for a reason to attempt a cow print so I used a raw edge applique technique to create fuzzy little blob shapes. My needle broke in the middle of this one and I could not be bothered to finish the top stitch around the edge XD

Day 04: Tiger
This piece was inspired by the fact that there are more tigers in captivity in the US alone than in the wild. I created very skinny bars (1/4 inch finished) which is the smallest piecing I have ever done I think. Then I appliqued the tiger eye elements of the top for a nice crisp look.

Day 05: Bow
For this prompt, I was really inspired by the opportunity to do a 3D element. I am super excited by the idea I came up with. I created a finished strip and made the illusion of it going in and out of the quilt. One side of the strip is very traditional-looking fabric while the other side is wonky fun monsters. You could say this is the 2 sides of quilting, or the 2 sides of my personality. They are twisted together and permanently sewn into a quilt.

Day 06: Trees
I wanted to continue the fun of 3D elements so I created these leaves that are sewn into the seams of the background block creating a 3D tree texture. This was inspired by textile artist Marzena Krzewicka who created a beautiful quilt called falling down.

Day 07: Potion
The last day of the week and by far my least favorite. I wasn’t super inspired by this prompt and couldn’t come up with any ideas that really excited me. So I decided to use it as an opportunity to experiment with curves, depth, and transparancy. I think I totally failed on the transparency idea so if you have any tips for that let me know in the comments!
